PRO name voltage-gated potassium channel KCNV1
Synonyms
PRO-short-label: KCNV1
EXACT: neuronal potassium channel alpha subunit HNKA; voltage-gated potassium channel subunit Kv8.1
Definition A voltage-gated potassium channel alpha subunit that is a translation product of the human KCNV1 gene or a 1:1 ortholog thereof. It has an atypical S6 segment containing the structural elements that modify inactivation of Kv2 channels. Similarly to KCNF1, KCNV1 and KCNS, KCNV2 subunits are not able to form functional channels on their own. Also in common with these modulatory subunits, it lacks the conserved PxP motif located in the distal part of S6. In this class the motif is PIA. The alteration of the PxP motif seems to be an important determinant of the regulatory function of modulatory subunits. It modulates the activity of KCNB1 and KCNB2 channels by changing kinetics and levels of expression and by shifting the half-inactivation potential to more polarized values. [PMID:16382104]
