A transient receptor potential cation channel TRPV that is a translation product of the human TRPV4 gene or a 1:1 ortholog thereof. The functional subunits are ion-selective calcium permeant cation channel probably involved in osmotic sensitivity and mechanosensitivity. Activation by exposure to hypotonicity within the physiological range exhibits an outward rectification.
