A cannabinoid receptor that is a translation product of the human CNR1 gene or a 1:1 ortholog thereof. Preferred ligands are cannabinoids--molecules related to tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), the psychoactive ingredient of cannabis. Endogenous cannabinoids serve as neurotransmitters. This receptor is expressed primarily in the brain.
